Copy trades on Tradovate: connect your login
Tradovate connects without typing your Tradovate password into MirrorFill: you name the connection, pick Demo or Live, and press Connect with Tradovate. Tradovate's own website asks you to sign in and approve, then sends you back. No API keys, no add-ons. A username and password still work if you prefer them (see below). Once the login passes Test, its accounts appear in the Trade Desk's copy rules pickers and can lead or follow like any other account.
Steps
- Open Accounts, click + Add connection and pick the Tradovate tile. Picking it takes you straight to the Details step.
- Name the connection, up to 32 characters.
- Pick the Account type: Demo or Live. It only sets where the saved connection starts. Picked the wrong one? It is corrected automatically the first time the login is tested.
- Press Connect with Tradovate. The step says so first: "Tradovate's website will open so you can approve the connection." MirrorFill saves the connection, then hands you to Tradovate.
- Sign in on Tradovate's website and approve the connection. You come back to the Accounts page with "Tradovate connected. Press Test to pull this login's accounts."
- Press Test on the new connection (on a phone, tap the connection, then Test). A working login answers that it connected, with the accounts it found, and they reach the copy rules pickers.
Use a password instead
Under the Account type sits a link, Use a password instead. It swaps the Details step to Connection name, Username and Password, the same ones you sign in to Tradovate with, plus the line "Tradovate allows one login at a time: stop the copier before testing a running connection." Connect with Tradovate instead swaps back.
- Enter your Tradovate username and password on the Details step.
- Press Continue, then Test. The Connect step lists what will be saved (never the password). A working login answers "Connected. N accounts found:" with your account ids.
- Click Save connection. The connection signs in once to look up its accounts, unless you switch off Find accounts after saving first.
Demo vs live is detected for you
Test works out which environment the login belongs to and writes the answer on the connection. The Accounts page then shows Demo account or Live account next to the connection's account count (the Details column in List view), with OAuth - in front for a connection made with Connect with Tradovate. If that ever changes on Tradovate's side, the next Test updates it.
The password form has no demo/live picker at all. Connect with Tradovate asks for Demo or Live, but only as a starting point: a wrong pick is corrected the first time the login is tested, so there is nothing to re-do.
Reauthorizing a connection
A connection made with Connect with Tradovate holds an authorization from Tradovate, not your password. Tradovate's authorizations are short-lived, so MirrorFill renews yours in the background, also while the copier is stopped. If one runs out anyway, the connection shows an amber REAUTHORIZE link in both views (on a phone, tap the connection, then Reauthorize Tradovate). Click it and approve on Tradovate's website again.
If you cancel on Tradovate's website, or the authorization does not complete, you land back on the Accounts page with a message saying what happened. Start again from there.
One session per login
Tradovate allows one API session per login. So if the copier is running with this login, Test refuses instead of kicking the copier off: the answer is an explicit "copier is running on this Tradovate login: stop it before testing". The fix is exactly that: stop the copier from the top bar, run your Test, then start copying again. On a phone, stop it from the dock on the Desk tab first, because the Accounts tab has no dock.
If your connection drops at odd moments even though the credentials pass Test, another program is probably taking the session. Work through Tradovate session conflicts.
Quick answers
Do I need Tradovate's API Access add-on?
No. Connect with Tradovate, or the username and password you already have, is all it takes. There is nothing extra to buy from Tradovate.
Can I sign in with OAuth?
Yes, and it is the normal path. Connect with Tradovate on the Details step sends you to Tradovate's own website to sign in and approve the connection, so your Tradovate password is never typed into MirrorFill. The connection then reads OAuth - Demo account or OAuth - Live account on the Accounts page. A username and password still work: press Use a password instead.
Did it connect to my demo or my live account?
Check the Accounts page: next to the connection's account count (the Details column in List view) it reads Demo account or Live account after the first passing Test.
I picked Demo, but my account is live. What now?
Press Test. The first Test checks which environment the login belongs to and corrects the connection. There is nothing else to change.
